Toyota cars named 'Most Successful'

Oct 29, 2012 By Toyota Australia.

Toyota Camry - including petrol and hybrid (pictured) versions - is among four Toyota vehicles listed as the most successful cars of 2012 by Forbes (Camry HL pictured).
Four Toyota vehicles - Camry, Corolla, Prius and RAV4 - have been listed among the most successful cars of 2012 by the influential Forbes group.
The cars were chosen by the US-based Forbes Group for their sales, consumer satisfaction and performance, reliability, safety and value.
More cars from Toyota made the list than from any other brand. In addition, the Lexus LS added to the dominance of the Toyota group on this year's list.
The Forbes publication coincides with the release of local figures showing strong increases in Australian demand for the four vehicles this year.
Sales of locally built Camry (including petrol and hybrid versions) have grown 22.9 per cent compared with the same period last year.
Toyota Australia executive director sales and marketing attributed the sales growth to the company's two-prong strategy for new Camry.
"Camry Altise is the value leader, providing an irresistible combination of modern design, advanced features and razor-sharp pricing for both private and business customers," Mr Callachor said.
"In addition, the Camry Atara range delivers an even more powerful on-road presence as well as the choice of sports or luxury-oriented models," he said.
"Consumers have responded favourably to the added style, passion and value across the Camry range, which reinforce Toyota's and Camry's traditional quality, durability and reliability."
Camry is also Australia's biggest vehicle export with a dominant share of the one-million locally built cars Toyota has exported from this country.
"The major destination for Australian-built Camry sedans is the Middle East, where it has carved out a reputation for thriving in extreme temperatures and tough terrain," Mr Callachor said.
So far this year, local Corolla sales have risen 11.7 per cent and RAV4 22.7 per cent. Sales of the Prius brand - including the Prius c city car, Prius v seven-seater and Prius hatch - have more than quadrupled to 2,545 units.
Overall, Toyota's sales have risen 21.1 per cent to the end of September - more than twice the average growth for the auto industry of 9.4 per cent.
Consumers have bought 159,111 vehicles from Toyota dealers this year - a gain of more than 27,700 over the same stage last year.
Toyota's market share has risen 1.8 percentage points to 19.3 per cent, which represents almost one out of every five vehicles sold in Australia.
The nearest rival has sold 85,345 vehicles for a market share of just 10.4 per cent.
Toyota's most popular vehicle in Australia this year is HiLux with sales exceeding 31,000 units, an increase of 12.2 per cent.
Toyota Camry is the new king of the road, outselling Ford's flagship F-150 pick-up in the United States for the first time.
International market-intelligence company Experian Automotive said consumers bought 209,000 Camry in the first half of this year, unseating the rival's popular truck by about 7,000 sales.
When you add all version of the F-Series, it remains the top-selling range in the US with Camry in second place.
Camry has been the best-selling passenger car in the US for the past 10 years in a row and 14 of the past 15 years.
