Toyota and Corolla Extend Grip on Sales Titles

Aug 5, 2015 By Toyota Australia.

Toyota has lifted its overall lead as Australia?s best-selling automotive brand in 2015 to more than 50,000 new vehicles, according to official figures released today.

Ever-popular Corolla has moved further ahead as the top-selling car across the country with more than 25,300 having been sold ? a margin that now exceeds 2,000 sales over its nearest competitor.

The news comes as deliveries of new vehicles by the local industry continue at record pace and are on track for a full-year total beyond 1.1 million.

Customers have bought more than 118,500 new Toyota vehicles in the seven months to the end of July, an increase of 0.8 per cent over the same period last year. No other brand has reached a total of 66,000 vehicles so far this year.

July?s tally for Toyota of more than 16,800 new-vehicle registrations was 2.1 per cent higher than the same month last year and 80 per cent above its closest rival ? a gap of almost 7,500 vehicles.

It was the fifth month this year that Corolla has topped the sales chart. Corolla was joined in the top 10 by HiLux, which led its 4x2 and 4x4 segments, and Camry, which is in its 22nd straight year as Australia?s best-selling mid-size car.

Toyota executive director sales and marketing Tony Cramb said strong demand and the company?s model update plans would result in a strong second half, leading to Toyota?s 13th year in a row and 19th year overall as the industry sales leader.

?Toyota expects to reap the benefits of customers responding positively to a wide-ranging revamp of our model line-up that is injecting more passion and greater emotional appeal into popular vehicles such as Camry and HiLux,? Mr Cramb said.

?Camry sales rose 9.4 per cent in June and 17.7 per cent in July on the back of an extensive upgrade that brings bold new styling, a dynamic locally developed sports version and aggressive prices,? Mr Cramb said.

?The next-generation HiLux is around the corner ? a vehicle that redefines toughness while delivering SUV-style comfort, safety and convenience,? he said.

?Toyota?s broad range will be further expanded with the introduction of the seven-seat Fortuner SUV while LandCruiser Prado will soon gain a new high-torque turbo-diesel engine.

?These and other advances, which follow upgrades to the Corolla hatch, Aurion family sedan, Prius c city car and Prius v seven-seater, give Toyota confidence over the balance of 2015.?
