Toyota Australia to recall vehicles due to fuel suction plate

Toyota Australia has announced a recall of approximately 324,000 Prius, Prius V, Corolla and Rukus vehicles built between October 2008 and February 2015.
The recall is due to the possibility that a crack may develop on the fuel suction plate assembled to the fuel tank.
If this occurs, the crack could expand over time and fuel may eventually leak when the vehicle has a full tank of petrol.
Fuel or fuel vapor in the presence of an ignition source could increase the risk of a vehicle fire.
There have been nine reported cases in Australia of a crack developing in Corolla vehicles. There have been no injuries or fires as a result.
Once parts become available Toyota Australia will contact all affected vehicle owners by mail to advise them to make an appointment at their preferred Toyota dealer.
For all affected vehicles, Toyota dealers will remove, disassemble and replace the fuel suction plate.
The repair will take approximately two hours to complete and will be carried out free of charge.

Q1: What is the condition?
A1: On the fuel suction plate, there is a possibility that a crack could develop at the edge of the resin channel for the emission vapour flow, due to an improper shape of the channel edge at that location. In this condition, the crack could expand over time, and eventually fuel may leak from the crack when the vehicle has a full tank of fuel. Fuel or fuel vapour in the presence of an ignition source could increase the risk of a vehicle fire.
Q2: What is the fuel suction plate?
A2: The fuel suction plate forms part of the fuel suction tube assembly that is located in the fuel tank and contains the fuel pump, fuel gauge sender unit, fuel filter and the fuel evaporative emission control system.

Q3: There are 324,123 Prius, Prius V, Corolla and Rukus vehicles covered by this Campaign in the Australian market.
Q4: Are there any other Toyota vehicles covered by this campaign?
A4: No other Toyota models other than tabled above are involved in this campaign.
Q5: Are there any warnings that this condition exists?
A5: There are no advanced warnings prior to the existence of this condition, however if a crack has developed, there may be evidence of fuel vapour smell or fuel leak when the tank is full.
Q6: What should a vehicle owner do if this condition occurs?
A6: If vehicle occupants detect a smell of fuel either inside or outside the vehicle, they should immediately contact their nearest Toyota Dealer for diagnosis and repair.
If condition is related to this campaign, the appropriate repair will be performed FREE OF CHARGE to the vehicle owner.
Q7: Have any accidents or injuries been reported as a result of this condition?
A7: We have not received any reports of accidents or injuries as a result of this condition in the Australian market.
Q8: What is Toyota going to do?
A8: Toyota will notify owners by mail to make an appointment with any authorised Toyota Dealer to have the rectification completed. Expected commencement timing is August 2016.

Q9: What does the remedy involve?
A9: For all involved vehicles, Toyota Dealers will remove the fuel suction tube assembly from the vehicle, disassemble and replace the fuel suction plate sub-assembly and then refit it to the vehicle.
Q10: How long will the repair take?
A10: This repair will take approximately 2 hours. However, depending upon the Dealer's work schedule, it may be necessary to make your vehicle available for a longer period of time.
Q11: Am I able to continue to operate my vehicle until this recall is completed?
A11: Yes, you can continue to drive your vehicle, however, should you detect a fuel smell - refer to Q6.
