Sales Landmarks For Toyotas Aussie-Built Cars

Dec 23, 2014 By Toyota Australia.

Toyotas three locally built cars are each posting significant sales milestones that reflect their acceptance and prominence on the buying lists of Australian motorists.
The landmark cars are the petrol-electric Camry Hybrid, the V6-powered Aurion and the Camry four-cylinder sedan - all of which are produced at Toyotas Altona manufacturing plant in Melbourne.
Camry Hybrid is on the cusp of achieving its 30,000th sale in Australia, making it the best-selling hybrid car in the country - even outselling the legendary Prius hatch.
Aurion will become the fourth of Toyotas Australian-built cars to achieve at least 100,000 sales, joining ranks with Camry, Corolla and Corona.
Locally built four-cylinder Camry completes the trio of milestones as it approaches a total of 650,000 sales in Australia; meanwhile, total Camry sales - including hybrid, V6 and imported versions - recently passed a cumulative total of 850,000 cars.
Toyotas executive director sales and marketing Tony Cramb said the milestones were due to the ongoing support and loyalty of customers, the high quality and value-packed features of the cars, plus dedicated dealer and Toyota staff.
Each of Toyotas locally produced cars - Camry Hybrid, Aurion and petrol Camry - has had a significant impact in its own right by meeting the demands of local motorists for style, performance, value, quality and reliability, Mr Cramb said.
Camry Hybrid - first launched in 2010 and with a second-generation model arriving in 2012 - is the only mass-produced hybrid car built in Australia. It was recently named Australias Best Green Car.
Camry Hybrid provides the performance, space and comfort of a family sedan while costing less to fuel than a large number of much smaller cars, Mr Cramb said.
He said Aurion had averaged close to 14 per cent of the large-car market over the past eight years and had played a vital role in Toyotas strategy with exports totalling more than 75,000 cars.
This year, more Australian customers have driven away in a new Aurion than the entire sales for 29 companies, including prominent brands such as Peugeot, Chrysler, MINI, Skoda and Alfa Romeo, he said.
Four-cylinder Camry is the linchpin of Toyotas local manufacturing operations with annual local sales averaging more than 23,000 cars over the 28 years it has been built in Australia.

It also dominates Toyotas exports with more than 1.2 million Australian-produced cars having been shipped to markets including the Middle East, New Zealand and Pacific nations.
Over seven generations, Camry has moved with the times so that it presents a compelling combination of emotional appeal and rational attraction for both private and business customers, Mr Cramb said.
Toyota has announced its local manufacturing will cease by the end of 2017. It intends to replace locally built cars with imported models, along with the entire range of Toyota passenger and commercial vehicles.
