Toyota Corolla is safer in encounters of the close kind.
You'll be even safer in the popular Toyota Corolla, because it now comes with stability and traction control to help keep the car on the road.
Toyota calls the technologies Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and Traction Control (TRC), and both make a surprising difference to the vehicle's handling in tricky situations.
The boosted steering control in those unexpected encounters - like when the corner is tighter than anticipated or the road becomes slippery - helps you keep pointing the wheels in the direction the vehicle should be going.
And although hopefully they'll never be needed, Toyota's driver's side knee airbag is helping look after your knees, along with front-side, and full length curtain shield airbags - all this to help protect you and your passengers.
Unfortunately, not all Corollas get these safety features standard, costing an extra $1500 on some models.
But, it's worth the expense because with VSC and TRC technologies, you'll have a better chance of avoiding close encounters and potential accidents.
VSC wasn't previously available for Corollas in Australia. Toyota Japan rectified this problem by specially calibrating VSC for the 1.8-litre Corolla, making another of Australia's favourite cars safer than ever.
