** Corolla top seller for sixth month in a row **
Toyota outsold its nearest rival by more than 80 per cent in August as Corolla topped the sales charts for the sixth consecutive month.
Australian motorists snapped up more than 15,600 Toyota vehicles for the month, a margin of more than 7,000 sales ahead of the next highest-selling brand.
The August result is in line with Toyotas market-leading performances throughout the year with its dealers having sold in excess of 133,200 vehicles in eight months.
No other brand has reached 75,000 sales this year, enabling Toyota to build an overall lead of more than 58,800 vehicles over the No. 2 company.
Strong demand for Corolla, HiLux (which remains Australias third best-selling vehicle), SUVs and LandCruiser wagons and workhorses has enabled Toyota to establish a firm grip on its 12th consecutive year as the countrys top-selling automotive brand.
In August, Corolla increased its narrow lead as Australias best-selling car with more than 3,200 sales, lifting its 2014 total above 29,200 vehicles.
Camry sales were close to four times higher than any other mid-size car while Kluger and Prado both exceeded 1,200 deliveries.
Toyotas 86 retained its stranglehold on the title of Australias most popular sports car while HiAce van and bus were again the leaders in their respective segments.
Toyotas executive director sales and marketing Tony Cramb said new-vehicle sales were expected to be even stronger with the arrival of spring.
Demand remains at near-record levels across the industry and Toyota, in particular, is geared up for sales to accelerate during the last four months of the year, Mr Cramb said.
