Corolla and Hilux lead as sales records tumble
Jul 4, 2013 By Toyota Australia.
* Record industry tallies for June, six months and financial year *
* New-vehicle sales reach a new high of 1.13 million in past 12 months *
* Corolla and HiLux: the two best-selling vehicles in Australia this year *
* Best-ever month for HiLux sales: 4,931 in June *
Toyotas Corolla and HiLux are Australias two best-selling vehicles so far this year, according to official industry figures released today.
Strong sales of the two Toyota vehicles helped propel the automotive industry to record sales in June, for the first half of 2013 and for the financial year.
Toyotas executive director sales and marketing Tony Cramb said the automotive industry is the stand-out performer in Australian retailing.
Strong competition, the highest levels of affordability in decades, low interest rates and a relatively strong economy are all pointing to a full-year year total of at least 1.1 million sales, Mr Cramb said.
We are potentially heading for another all-time record and the fourth consecutive year above the magic million, he said.
The July-December half is traditionally stronger for Toyota, providing confidence we will achieve our 11th consecutive year of market leadership with well over 200,000 sales.
Camry was the best-selling Australian produced car in June, which is a great platform for a sales spike over the next three months on the back of a zero per cent* finance offer on locally built models.
In June, local motorists bought an unprecedented 118,758 vehicles the highest for any month on record and 5.5 per cent ahead of the previous record set in June last year.
HiLux had its best month ever, leading the industry with 4,931 sales while Corolla was second with 4,196 deliveries the third consecutive month these two vehicles have scored the sales quinella.
Corolla extended its lead as Australias most popular car in 2013 and HiLux leapfrogged into second place.
It is the first time Toyota vehicles have headed the national sales chart at the half-way mark of the year.
Booming June sales lifted the industrys result for the first half of 2013 to 573,711 vehicles the best result for any half-year period.
In the financial year ended last Sunday, Australians bought 1,137,889 vehicles a new record for any calendar or financial year.
The 12-month total was almost 26,000 ahead of the previous record of 1.11 million set in calendar 2012 and more than 77,000 ahead of the previous best financial year (1.06 million sales in 201112).
Toyota dealers delivered market-leading totals of 22,160 vehicles for June, 106,110 for the half year and 218,251 for the financial year all three being higher than for the previous corresponding periods.
In each of these periods, Toyotas sales volumes were higher than the combined totals of its nearest two competitors.
Toyota outsold its closest rival by more than 11,600 vehicles in June. Its lead for the half year is more than 53,800 sales and for the financial year exceeds 108,200 units.
Toyota vehicles were the best-selling vehicles in nine segments for June Yaris, Corolla, Camry, 86, LandCruiser wagon, HiLux 4x2, HiLux 4x4, HiAce van and HiAce bus.
