Corolla hits the front
Jun 5, 2013 By Toyota Australia.
Toyota Corolla has raced to the front in the battle to be crowned Australias best-selling car in 2013.
Official figures released today show more Australians have bought a Corolla this year than any other vehicle.
The enduring popularity of Corolla has resulted in an overall lead of more than 350 cars after it outsold its nearest rival by more than 1,200 units over the past two months.
Corolla and HiLux have taken the top two positions on the sales chart in each of the past two months.
While Corolla prevailed in April, it was pipped in May by its stablemate HiLux with both vehicles last month selling close to 600 more than the previous top-selling car.
Toyota dealers sold 3,640 Corolla hatches and sedans in May, lifting the cars total for the year to an industry-leading 16,774 registrations.
The Toyota network also delivered 3,665 HiLux utes, allowing the workhorse to retain third place so far this year with 15,790 sales.
Other positive news for Toyota included RAV4 claiming its best-ever May sales.
Toyotas locally built petrol Camry (1,418 sales) almost tripled the result of its nearest rival (495), which was also beaten by Camry Hybrid (516) on its own.
LandCruiser Prado (1,499) and LandCruiser wagon (854) were the top-selling vehicles in their segments, as were the 86 sports car (582), HiLux 4x4 (2,737), HiLux 4x2 (929), HiAce van (668) and HiAce bus (199).
Toyota Australias divisional manager sales Chris Beuth said Toyota was expecting to grow its overall market leadership in June traditionally the industrys strongest month of the year.
In May, Toyotas total of 19,003 sales was substantially more than the combined totals of our two nearest rivals, Mr Beuth said.
Toyota dealers have now sold almost 84,000 Toyota vehicles this year, which is more than 40,000 ahead of any other brand.
They tell us customers are responding to the style and dynamic appeal of new cars like Corolla and RAV4, as well as the reputation of all Toyota vehicles for their quality, durability and reliability.
Toyota expects to pass 100,000 sales for the year during June, delivering more than 20,000 vehicles a level no other brand has achieved in a single month, Mr Beuth said.
