Corolla and Hilux top new-vehicle sales

Toyota's Corolla and HiLux were the best-selling vehicles in Australia last month, according to official figures released today.
Toyota was the most popular brand among new-vehicle buyers, outselling the combined totals of its two nearest rivals.
Australian motorists bought 3,504 Corolla hatches and sedans for the month more than 600 ahead of any vehicle from a competitor.
The HiLux total was 2,932 as both the 4x4 and 4x2 variants were the strongest sellers in their respective segments.
Toyotas monthly total of 16,902 sales represents a market share of 19.9 per cent, making it the only brand to reach double figures.
Ten Toyota vehicles were the most popular in their segments: Yaris, locally built Camry, the 86 sports car, LandCruiser Prado SUV, LandCruiser wagon, HiAce bus and HiAce van, in addition to Corolla and HiLux 4x2 and 4x4.
The market leader has now sold 64,947 vehicles so far this year 1,000 more than the corresponding period in 2012 and in excess of 30,000 sales ahead of any other brand.
Toyota Australia executive director sales and marketing Matthew Callachor said the "quinella" for Corolla and HiLux demonstrated the long-term customer appeal of both models.
"Corolla and HiLux have each carved a special place in the hearts and minds of Australian motorists by delivering on their requirements over many decades," Mr Callachor said.
"Toyota dealers continue to report strong demand for them, which is encouraging as we enter what is traditionally our two strongest months of the year supported by the Toyota Means Business promotion," he said.
