Toyota Australia To Invest In The Next Generation Engine

Toyota Australia has announced a $300 million project to build new fuel-efficient engines for the Camry and Hybrid Camry.
More than 100,000 engines a year will be produced at the company's Altona plant in Melbourne's west, starting in the second half of 2012.
The plant already produces a four-cylinder engine for the current-generation Camry, which is sold in Australia and exported to more than 20 destinations, mainly in the Middle East.
Major benefits of the new engines will be lower carbon emissions and improved fuel consumption.
The decision provides a foundation for on-going vehicle production by Toyota in Australia and provides the company with significant export opportunities.
Toyota Australia President and CEO Max Yasuda has praised employees, unions and suppliers for ensuring the project proceeds.
He says Toyota acknowledges the strong support of the Federal and State Governments to see new, more environmentally friendly technologies introduced to Australia.
Toyota is Australia's largest car manufacturer and market leader. This year, the company launched Australia's first locally built hybrid, the Hybrid Camry.
