World Drift Legend Stars In Calder Park Spectacular

The winner of the international Formula Drift Fan Favorite Driver of the Year award Fredric Aasbo will star in the first round of the Achilles Formula Drift Asia Championship at Calder Park this weekend.
The Championship is being billed as the biggest drift event ever held in Australia and heralds a major resurgence of the sport.
Hailed as the rock star of drifting, Aasbo will drive a V8-powered Toyota 86 against 22 of the fastest drift cars in the world.
The unique two-day format features the Australian Drifting GP on Saturday April 27 and the first round of the Achilles Formula Drift Asia 2013 on Sunday April 28.
Calder Parks Thunderdome has been transformed for the drift championship.
Competitors will use a specially designed course incorporating the Thunderdomes banked main straight and pit road, with spectators looking down on the action from tiered grandstand seating.
The Formula Drift Asia cars, and Aasbo, will be competing in Australia for the first time.
Aasbo has become a sensation in the global drift fraternity with more than 60 wins on three continents, notably all on his favourite Toyota platform.
Aasbo currently drifts a Supra, Scion TC and the iconic Toyota 86 in Europe, USA and Asia respectively.
The 27-year-old Norwegian burst onto the drift scene in 2010 to become the Formula Drift Rookie of the Year.
He won the 2011 and 2012 British Drift Championships and is a multiple podium winner in the Formula Drift USA series. Stateside, Aasbo is a brand ambassador and pro racer for the iconic Scion Racing team (Toyota USAs sister brand).
He was one of the first to adopt Toyotas 86 as a drift car.
His car in Australia, built by Japanese performance specialist RSR, is powered by a five-litre TRD V8 from the Lexus IS F.
The Top 16 of the Achilles Formula Drift Asia Championship on Sunday 28 April will be televised live on FOX SPORTS Asia and Speed TV from 4pm, local Australia time.
Six Australians will advance to Sundays qualifying from Saturdays Australian Drift GP to fight for the right to compete in the final.
