Prius battery
Jun 28, 2009 By Toyota Australia.
Everyone who owns a Toyota Prius in Australia now gets an 8-year/160,000 kilometre* warranty on the hybrid battery (*whichever comes first).
The move stretches the warranty from five years/100,000km - a huge vote of confidence in the hybrid battery's durability and reliability.
It's also been backdated so that it applies to every Prius sold in this country - more than 12,700 cars since Prius was launched here in late 2001.
Toyota is writing to all Prius owners to tell them the details.
Very few customers have replaced batteries in Australia. Even in a place as hot and humid as Cairns, several Prius taxis have been driven more than 400,000km on the original hybrid battery.
For the rest of us who drive 15,000 to 20,000km a year, that's equivalent to at least 20 years of normal driving.
And there's an international recycling program in place for the odd occasion when a battery is replaced.
The all-new third-generation Prius, powered by Hybrid Synergy Drive, goes on sale in the second week of July.</p.
