Prius wins Japan's Car of the Year award
Oct 26, 2009 By Toyota Australia.
Toyota's third-gen Prius, which has been available in Australia for four months, has just been named Japan's car of the year at the Tokyo motor show.
New-model Prius is the best-selling car in Japan, by itself accounting for over 10 percent of Japan's car market in September.
It's the second time the Japan Automobile Manufacturer's Association has named Prius car of the year in Japan, with Prius edging out another hybrid in a live tally at the motor show.
Toyota Australia's senior executive director Dave Buttner said the result for Prius in Japan is a big thumbs up for the shift to hybrid.
Mr Buttner also said the high sales in Australia and Japan show that drivers are realising in greater numbers the need to save fuel and contribute to environmental wellbeing.
New-generation Prius features a 21 per cent increase in power, but an 11.3 per cent decrease in fuel use, to just 3.9-litres per 100km*.
And significantly, Prius emits just 89g per kilometre of CO[sub]2[/sub]*, the lowest emissions of any vehicle.
