Record Sales as New Prius Launches
Aug 10, 2009 By Toyota Australia.
Toyota's Prius has set an all-time sales record in Australia just two weeks after the launch of a new-generation car.
A total of 446 customers bought a Prius in July - more than 60 ahead of the previous record set in May 2007.
All-new third-generation Prius was launched on July 20.
It is Australia's greenest car, using less fuel around town and producing fewer emissions than any other vehicle on the market.
The latest figures indicate the growing popularity of vehicles that are viewed as environmentally friendly - and not just in Australia.
In Japan, Prius was the best-selling car in May and repeated the feat in June with sales doubling to more than 22,000 for the month.
Around the world, total Prius sales have now exceeded 1.3 million globally, including 13,300 in Australia.
Including Prius, Toyota has sold more than 1.9 million hybrid vehicles and expects to pass the two-million mark before the end of the year.
