Toyota is introducing high-tech systems in new Prius to improve safety by reducing driver eye movement.
Your eyes can be off the road for precious seconds when you glance down to check the speedo, or make sure you're hitting the right button on the steering-wheel controls.
But, this problem is overcome by two innovations - Touch Tracer and Head-up Display - which are fitted to all-new, third-generation Prius, powered by Hybrid Synergy Drive.
Touch Tracer is a world-first technology that makes it easier and safer to use steering-wheel controls to adjust features such as the sound system and ventilation.
When you touch the steering-wheel control buttons, a duplicate image pops up on the instrument panel, right in front of you.
An orange light on the duplicate display shows what button you're touching so that you make the right selection without having to look down at the steering wheel.
The second high-tech innovation, Head-up Display, projects the speedo read-out onto the base of the windscreen so you can read it without taking your eyes off the road.
You can also see an energy monitor that shows how economically you're driving - and, if you have sat-nav, it'll show you the direction and distance of the next turn, too.
