Toyota HiLux 4x4 Posts Half a Million Sales

Toyota?s ?unbreakable? HiLux is riding high with news that its popular four-wheel-drive variants have reached cumulative sales of half a million vehicles in Australia.
The 500,000 milestone coincides with HiLux leading the local sales charts as the best-selling vehicle in Australia so far this year.
HiLux is also well placed to extend its remarkable run of 11 consecutive years as Australia's best-selling four-wheel-drive vehicle.
Toyota?s executive director sales and marketing Tony Cramb said the sales results reflected the enviable reputation HiLux has developed for toughness and reliability.
?HiLux is renowned and respected for its ability to thrive in Australia?s harshest conditions while also providing the space and features expected by a family,? Mr Cramb said.
?The latest-generation range we launched last year is the toughest HiLux ever and also the most refined with SUV-like comfort and convenience,? he said.
Toyota?s Australian dealers have sold 12,883 HiLux utes so far this year, making it the top-selling vehicle in the country ? 99 sales clear of Corolla in second place.
HiLux SR5 was recently judged by the nation?s motoring clubs as the best dual cab 4x4 available on the local market.
Judges in Australia?s Best Cars awards said HiLux SR5 is smarter, more economical and tougher with a stronger chassis, beefed-up suspension, smooth and quiet diesel engine, even better off-road ability as well as a more modern and quieter cabin.
HiLux 4x2 models arrived in Australia in 1971 and have posted a total of more than 380,000 sales. HiLux 4x4 variants entered the local market in 1980 and quickly became the top seller. The combined HiLux tally is 885,000 vehicles.
In the past decade, total HiLux sales have averaged more than 39,000 vehicles a year with 4x4 models accounting for almost two-thirds of total sales.
Last year, HiLux was the top-selling vehicle in Western Australia for the eighth year in a row, in Queensland for the ninth straight year and in the Northern Territory for a remarkable 15th consecutive year.
