Toyota 86 Racing Series Connects With Hino As Commercial Support Builds

Commercial vehicle heavyweight Hino Motor Sales Australia has signed a multi-year partnership as the Official Truck provider of the much-anticipated Toyota 86 Racing Series.
The announcement comes as interest in the new development series continues to build, with just three months to go in the countdown to the first round at the V8 Supercars Winton SuperSprint (May 20?22).
First tangible evidence of the global truck, bus and coach specialist?s connection to the series comes in the form of a Hino 700 Series SS 2848 ProShift 16 high roof air prime-mover that will be used to help transport category support equipment and selected cars to race rounds.
No stranger to motorsport, this year Hino took out a record seventh successive class victory in the punishing Dakar Rally. Hino Team Sugawara?s win in the Under 10-litre truck category marked 25 years since Hino became the first Japanese truck manufacturer to enter the rally in 1991.
Hino Motor Sales Australia national marketing manager Sarah Rosales said Hino?s involvement with the Toyota 86 Racing Series aligns perfectly with the brand?s on-going competition program.
?Hino is an avid supporter of Australian motorsport and the accompanying developments arising from it. We are proud to have this series in our backyard,? Ms Rosales said.
At the same time, Toyota Genuine Motor Oil (TGMO), one of Australia?s largest and most successful genuine oil programs, has confirmed its support of the Toyota 86 Racing Series in 2016.
These new connections come on the back of Dunlop?s late 2015 appointment as control tyre supplier for the series.
Toyota executive director sales and marketing Tony Cramb welcomed the new partnerships.
?The aim of the Toyota 86 Racing Series is to unearth and foster fresh motorsport talent, providing emerging drivers with an affordable stepping stone to national competition,? Mr Cramb said.
?With Hino, Toyota Genuine Motor Oil and Dunlop?s involvement, our passion for achieving that goal is now supported by an even stronger platform,? he said.
Hino 700 Series SS 2848
Powered by a 353kW/2157Nm turbo inter-cooled, in-line six cylinder diesel engine, matched with a 16-speed Automated Manual Transmission (AMT), the Hino 700 Series features a full-floating air-suspension cab, latest generation ABS braking, as well as cruise-control and driver airbag.

Intensive on-track evaluation led to selection of the ultra-high performance, 225/40R18 R-spec Dunlop Direzza DZII*86 as control tyre for the Toyota 86 Racing Series. It is often referred to as the ?Tada tyre?, referencing Toyota 86 chief engineer, Tetsuya Tada.
The Toyota 86 Racing Series
The Toyota 86 Racing Series is designed to provide an entry point and training ground for up-and-coming drivers, offering a confirmed prize pool of $125,000.
Open to all manual variants of Toyota?s cult-classic sports car*, the series is part of the support program at selected rounds of the Australian V8 Supercars championship.
In 2016 the Toyota 86 Racing Series will run over five events: May 20?22 (Winton SuperSprint), August 26?28 (Sydney Motorsport Park SuperSprint), September 16?18 (Sandown 500), October 6?9 (Bathurst 1000) and November 25?27 (Sydney 500).
